Bioelectrochemical Greywater Treatment for Non-Potable Reuse and Energy Recovery

چکیده

Greywater normally represents the largest fraction of wastewater generated in buildings and may be suitable for non-potable reuse after on-site treatment. Conventional technologies greywater treatment include sequencing batch reactors, membrane filtration, biological reactors. Even though these can very effective, they are highly energy consuming negatively impact balance building where installed. Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) have emerged as a sustainable technology contaminant removal production from variety substrates. In this study, application MFCs is reported, with particular focus on analysis losses, view reuse. were fed different types greywater, characterized by either high or low conductivity, because greywater’s conductivity greatly differ based its origin; case, organic matter (chemical oxygen demand; COD) was higher than 85% not influenced influent coupled maximum power 0.46 mW L?1 0.38 L?1. Electrolyte overpotentials dramatically case (20% vs. 10%, compared to influent); related influent, showing that hindered generation, but COD removal. Polarization curves showed internal resistance confirming overpotentials’ analysis. Results feasibility use treatment, potential reduce demand connected conventional technologies; coupling disinfection stage would necessary fully comply most regulations.

Possibilities of greywater reuse in non-potable in situ urban applications, according with its quality and quantity

-Water resources are being, over decades, intensively over explored and polluted, and it is estimated that in a few years, it is reached highly values of water stress in Europe. Portugal is already in the ranking of countries with medium water stress (10-20%). To avoid the deterioration of this situation it is imperative to consider different approaches of water management, such as water reuse ...

On-site greywater treatment and reuse in multi-storey buildings.

The paper presents a study of a pilot plant treating light greywater for seven flats. The pilot plant combines biological treatment (RBC) with physicochemical treatment (sand filtration and disinfection). The pilot plant produced effluent of excellent quality, meeting the urban reuse quality regulations, and was very efficient in TSS turbidity and BOD removal: 82%, 98% and 96%, respectively. CO...

Greywater Treatment and Reuse Using a Baffled Constructed Wetland

Water is one of the world’s most valuable resources. However it is under constant threat due to urbanization, explosive population growth and pollution. The most promising efforts to stem water crisis are to treat the wastewater in a sustainable way and reuse for non-potable applications. Grey water (GW) being highly voluminous and relatively less polluted, recycling for non-potable uses like u...
